Reception Honoring President General Elizabeth McAteer on May 16th

Lord Craven Chapter received an invitation from the Catawba Valley Chapter to a reception honoring our new President General Elizabeth McAteer on May 16, 2-4PM  at Gaston Country Club in Gastonia. That is the day of our meeting and we will be installing new officers.  If anyone wants to attend the reception please let Carole know so she can RSVP to them by May 8.  Note Carole email address is now  cnweiss19@gmail.com.

The guest speaker will be Honorary State President,  Gwen Causey. Her topic will be, "Our Colonial Dames Headquarters." As the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is quickly drawing to a close, we wanted to be sure that you and your organization were aware of an event in Wilmington, NC on February 15, 2015:

Four institutions have come together to present one of North Carolina’s closing events for the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington, St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, The Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry, and the Fayetteville AreaTransportation and Local History Museum will host a War of 1812 Commemoration Ceremony at :

St. James Episcopal Church on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. This program honors the service of the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry during the war as well as three servicemen buried in the churchyard at St. James. It also celebrates the long-standing ties between the cities of Wilmington and Fayetteville and the parishes of St. James and St. John’s. The keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Kevin Cherry, Deputy Secretary for Archives and History, North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources.

Lord Craven Chapter Colonial Dames 17th Century Meeting Scheduled for 12:00 on February 21st

Our next Lord Craven meeting is February 21, 2015  at Noon at Carolina BBQ ion South College Ave. in Wilmington, NC.  Please note the time change. This is due to the Moore's Creek Celebration in the morning.

Our speaker is Jeff Holcomb who will tell us about a very interesting, 'modern' woman "Eleanor of Aquitaine."

Tremendous thanks to all who supported our NC Grown Fraser Fir Wreath fund raiser this fall.

November 15, 2014 Lord Craven Chapter Colonial Dames 17th Century Meeting

The November Lord Craven Colonial Dames meeting will be held on November 15th at the Carolina BBQ Restaurant on South College Avenue in Wilmington, NC. The meeting will begin at 11:30. The program will be Cynthia Avent, Carole Weiss et al “Sharing our Colonial Dames Ancestors.”

FRASER FIR WREATHS

Lord Craven chapter is again selling the North Carolina  wreaths that we sold last year.  It was a successful fund raiser for us and we hope that members will again support this effort and encourage friends and family to purchase one or more of these beautiful wreaths.  Shipping costs have increased and the price of the wreath this year is $22. The price is right and they make lovely gifts.  The wreaths will be delivered to Mary Earp by Dec 6 for pickup at her home.

The Lord Craven Chapter of Colonial Dames is selling  wreaths again this year. You can see from the photographs that Carole provided that you can decorate them in a variety of ways. You can just put a bow on one if you like or leave them plain.

Checks should be made out to Lord Craven Chapter, CD XVIIC & sent to Pat Elsaesser or bring them to our next meeting on Nov 15th.  Our deadline for getting the orders in is Nov 20.

Pat will keep a count of the number of wreaths ordered by each member.

Each member should keep a list of their people, their contact information & the number of wreaths each one ordered.

September 20th Lord Craven Chapter Colonial Dames 17th Century Meeting

The September Lord Craven Colonial Dames meeting was held on September 20th at the Carolina BBQ Restaurant on South College Avenue in Wilmington, NC. The guest speaker was renowned author, Emily Weil, who spoke about her new book Cornwallis. Her Volunteer Work includes Wayne Co. Historical Association, Past DAR State Treasurer, State Registrar and National Parliamentarian for CDXVIIC. Emily has published 7 books on historical subjects, 3 plays, 2 video scripts and 10 short stories published in newspapers. She has also received "Outstanding Young Woman in America" 1966; Governor's Award for Volunteer Service 1999; "Order of the Long Leaf Pine" Award 2005; NC Society of Historians History Book Award for "Cornwallis" 2010; DAR National History Award 2011.
