The next meeting of the Lord Craven Chapter Colonial Dames 17th Century will be Saturday, May 18 at 11:30 at Carolina BBQ in Wilmington.  The program is one you will not want to miss.  The program, the Lost State, will be given by our own Nora Hickam.  After a brief business meeting, new officers for the 2019-2021 term will be installed.  I look forward to seeing everyone at
the meeting.

Our National Anthem is The Star Spangled Banner. It was written by Francis Scott Key. He wrote the lyrics on September 14, 1814, during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. It was originally called “Defence of Fort McHenry”. There were many patriotic songs, and The Star Spangled Banner became another one of them, one that struck at the heart of Americans, and gained popularity over the years. But, for a long time, America did not have an official national anthem.

It wasn't until over 100 years later, that The Star Spangled Banner became our national anthem. On March 3, 1931, President Herbert Hoover signed a congressional resolution officially making “The Star Spangled Banner” the national anthem of the United States of America

On this special day, proudly fly the USA flag at your home and place of business. Take this as an opportunity to sing the National Anthem, or listen to it being sung. And, look for chances to show your patriotism.

Lord Craven Colonial Dames 17th Century February Meeting 2019

Lord Craven Chapter, CDXVII Meeting is Scheduled for February 16, 2019

The February 16, 2019 meeting of Lord Craven Chapter, CDXVII will be held at
Carolina BBQ, 1602 College Rd., Wilmington at 11:30.  Doors will open at 11:00. Please feel free to come early to socialize.

The program, on Colonial Music, will be presented by Cape Fear A Capella Group, led by Jane Izod.

The Members of The Lord Craven Colonial Dames 17th Century Chapter Wish All Our Viewers and Members a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday and a Healthy Happy New Year too!

Wreaths Across America - December 15, 2018 at the Wilmington National Cemetery

Volunteers from The National Society North Carolina Colonial Dames 17th Century Lord Craven Chapter who manned the forces of passing out the wreaths to hundreds of people along with their volunteers from the Wilmington and Leeland area. Also, the Civil Air Patrol came to the rescue to assist opening up additional boxes of wreaths to place on the tables for all the guests who placed the wreaths on the graves of the Veterans.
