CALL TO ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE

Dear North Carolina Dames,

Happy New Year! I am very excited about our upcoming 73rd State Conference in March. I hope your 2023 is off to a great start and everyone is looking forward to seeing each other, collaborating, and participating “in person”.

Attending the State Conference is a great way for dames to learn more about the work we do, get new ideas from others, and enjoy fellowship with old and new friends. CHAPTER PRESIDENTS: PLEASE FORWARD A COPY OF THIS CALL TO ALL YOUR CHAPTER MEMBERS! If a member does not have an email, please mail a copy to them. Hopefully, this Call to Conference will contain all the information you need and will answer any questions you may have. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me or State Vice President, Pat Gooding at any time.

This year we will have a Silent Auction, a Southwestern Themed Banquet (in honor of our National President), a meeting of the Heraldry Club, a Chapter President’s lunch and important business approving the Society’s Budget and updating Bylaws. Your State Board and I can’t wait to see you in March!

In Friendship,

Meg

Ladies,

As of January 21, 2023 we have 22 wreaths as a result of the 2-for-1 sale. Now that the 2 for 1 is over we have the opportunity to buy wreaths at $15.00 a wreath until February 1st. So let us get our credit cards out and go to our website and buy a wreath. Click on the site below. The wreaths will cost $17.00 as of February 1, 2023.

www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/nc0025p  (click on website- This is a direct website for our 1812 chapter to sponsor a wreath

1. Click on Sponsor a wreath. Each wreath is $15.00.

2.  Fill in your information and the name of the person. Then your credit card information. If you do not get a thank-you e-mail after donating or you don’t receive a confirmation e-mail then the transaction did not go through.

3. If you are having problems ordering a wreath, then call the main number for Wreaths Across America at 877-385-9504 Monday-Friday. Someone will answer the phone between 7:00 am through 7:00pm. On weekends you can call Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am-2:00 pm. You can buy a wreath with a credit card or debit card. I don't recommend using Pay Pal. If you call any other time you can leave your name and phone number and someone will call you back. You will need our group ID: NC0025P and Location: NCWNCE.

After purchasing a wreath by phone or by e-mail you should get an e-mail confirmation. After you receive this receipt forward it to par4wilson@gmail.com  Phyllis Wilson, so she can keep a record of it. If there are any concerns she will have an account number to refer to.

Thank you.

This year Wreaths Across America has a Committee of  3 working on publicity. They are Susan Woodward,  Kathleen Benedict, and Phyllis Wilson, blog manager.

Wreaths Across America is Offering a 2-1 Sale - Buy 1 Wreath Get Another One. This Ends January 15 at midnight! We have 6 wreaths.

Our Lord Craven Chapter has 11 wreaths as of January 21 2023. Come on members and anyone else seeing this post. Let's purchase some wreaths. Deadline is Sunday, January 15th at midnight.

Wreaths Across America is offering a 2-for-1 Sale. This is a great deal. Even if you already bought wreaths last year this is this year and if you buy them now you will get double your order.  The goal here is to put a wreath on every grave in 2023. If the same people who ordered wreaths this past year would order wreaths now we would have double the number of wreaths. If there are people in Colonial Dames who never ordered a wreath and ordered some now we would have lots of wreaths. If you are confused as to how to order a wreath just send Phyllis Wilson an e-mail at par4wilson@gmail.com and I will walk you through your order. There is a tab on this blog that has a link to the correct website to order wreaths on. Please don't go to the main website or our chapter will not get credit for the purchase.

Site of First Official Thanksgiving in America on December 4, 1619 at Berkeley Plantation in Virginia

It was 2 years before the Pilgrims Thanksgiving! Also, in 1565 a Spanish explorer Pedro Menendez de Vile’ celebrated Thanksgiving in St. Augustine, Fl. with the local Ticumua tribe. It was President Lincoln who declared the November Holiday for Thanksgiving.

On October 3, 1863, with this victory in mind, as well as its cost, President Lincoln issued a proclamation: I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, …to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving.
