Lord Craven Colonial Dames 17th Century May 19th Meeting
The guest speaker for the May 19th Lord Craven meeting was Phil Edge, a retired lockmaster on the Cape Fear River. He provided excellent an excellent program. The first steamboat went down the Cape Fear in 1818, the draft of the river is 8 feet, the lock system was established in 1914. It was the main route for trade before roads and carried goods including pitch, lumber, tobacco and crops. A trip down the river is like stepping back in time according to Phil.

Anne Boone had the winning ticket and won this beautiful
scarf, but was kind and gave it to Diane Kuebert, so she could give it to her
mother who loves poppies and the meaning behind the flower of WWI. Diane will
give it to her on Mother’s Day. That was
so thoughtful of Anne to give this beautiful give up. Linda Rivenbark purchased this beautiful
scarf when she was on vacation with her husband, Mo. They were on a river
cruise in France.
