Veterans Day Ceremony on November 12, 2018 at 10:00 at St. James Community Center

VETERANS DAY CEREMONY
On November the 12, 2018 (Not a mistake) the American Legion Post 543 will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony. It will be held at 10 am at the St. James Community Center. All welcome, refreshment served after the ceremony.

9/11 RMEMBRANCE CEREMONY 10:00 AM

The American Legion Post 543 and the St. James Fire Department will jointly hos a remembrance ceremony to honor those lost to the terrorist attack on 9/11. The ceremony will be held at the St. James Community Center at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. The ceremony is open to the public and everyone is invited.

Lord Craven Colonial Dames 17th Century Meeting Scheduled for September 18th

The September 18^th Lord Craven Colonial Dames meeting with be held at the home of Vice-President Linda Rivenbark. The program will be given by her husband and the title of the program is: “Winemaking by Mo.” Also I am asking you to be prepared when you come to the meeting to do a “Show and Tell” about a treasure that you have. The title is “Show Us What You’ve Got.” The time of the meeting will be posted later. Linda’s address is in out yearbook. AMERICAN LEGION POST 543 MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

American Legion Post 543 will host the community's annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 28, 2018 inside the St. James Community Center on Route 211, NC All local communities are invited to attend. Colors will be presented; the National Anthem will be sung and a memorial wreath will be placed followed by Taps. Ms. Lois Moore will sing.

The guest speaker will be Secretary Larry Hall, of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veteran Affairs. Larry D. Hall is currently serving as the Secretary for the North Carolina Department of Military & Veterans Affairs.

Born and raised in Durham County, Secretary Hall earned a B.S. with Honors in Political Science and Business from Johnson C. Smith University and a J.D. from the School of Law at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Secretary Hall formerly represented Durham County, North Carolina's 29th District in the House of Representatives, since 2006. Secretary Hall served 16 years in the United States Marines and Marine Corps Reserves and served in support of Operations in the Middle East in Lebanon and Iran. Secretary Hall has been awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, the Marine Corps Reserve Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Citation.

Lord Craven Colonial Dames 17th Century May 19th Meeting

The guest speaker for the May 19th Lord Craven meeting  was Phil Edge, a retired lockmaster on the Cape Fear River. He provided excellent  an excellent program. The first steamboat went down the Cape Fear in 1818, the draft of the river is 8 feet, the lock system was established in 1914.  It was the main route for trade before roads and carried goods including pitch, lumber, tobacco and crops.  A trip down the river is like stepping back in time according to Phil.

Lord Craven, CDXVIII Will Hold Their Next Meeting on Saturday, May 19th

The next Lord Craven, CDXVIII meeting will be Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Carolina BBQ on 1602 S. College Road, in Wilmington, NC. You may begin arriving at 11:00 (when they open). The meeting will be a 11:30. The guest speaker will be Phil Edge, a retired lockmaster on the Cape Fear River.
