On Monday, May 29, 2017, the Richard H. Stewart, Jr. American Legion Post 543 will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 11:00 AM at the Veterans Memorial adjacent to the St. James Town Hall on Route 211. All local communities are invited to attend. Colors will be presented by the Post 543 Honor Guard. The National Anthem will be sung, and a memorial wreath will be placed, followed by taps. Ms. Lois Moore, soloist, will be performing patriotic songs.
This year, our guest speakers are a husband and wife. They are active duty members of the U.S. Air Force; Chief Master Sergeant Shane Flint and Chief Master Sergeant Karen F. Beirne-Flint. Shane Flint is the Command Chief, 688th Cyberspace Wing, Joint Base San Antonio, Lackland, Texas. The 688th Cyberspace Wing is part of the new 24th Air Force. The 24th Air Force is the operational warfighting organization that establishes, operates, maintains and defends Air Force networks. As the Command Chief, Shane serves as the principal advisor to the wing commander on all matters of military readiness, morale, quality of life, professional development and effective utilization of resources for over 2,100 military, civilian and contractor members. Karen Beirne Flint is the Superintendent of the 8th Field Investigations Region of the Air Force, Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) at Peterson AFB, Colorado. She is the primary advisor to the region commander on all issues relating to discipline, health, welfare, morale and professional development of over 250 active duty, reserve and civilian AFOSI special agents and professional staff which supports the Air Force Space Command, Air Force Global Strike Command and the United States Air Force Academy.
Seating will be provided for all attendees at the Veterans’ Memorial. Parking is limited and carpooling is strongly encouraged. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place inside the St James Community Center. Light refreshments will be available in the St James Community Center, following the ceremony.
