We are saddened to share that our former member, Marie Hardee Preston, passed away on September 17, 2026.
Marie was a valued member of The National Society North Carolina Colonial Dames 17th Century, Lord Craven Chapter. She was also known for her devoted service to local historical and heritage organizations in the Wilmington area, including her involvement with Commissioner Charles Gause No.433 Chapter of the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812.
Historical records and chapter announcements reflect Marie’s faithful participation and leadership, including her service as chaplain for the Lord Craven Chapter and the Commissioner Charles Gause No. 433 Chapter. She was also affiliated with the Stamp Defiance Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
A native of the area, Marie graduated magna cum laude from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1979. Her ancestor was Jesse B. Scarborough of North Carolina.
At this time, we do not yet have information regarding a celebration of life service or where condolences may be sent to Marie’s family. When we have more definite information, we will share it by email and post it on our chapter blogs.
