Wreaths Across America is Sponsoring a 2 for 1 Sale: Buy 1 Wreath Get 1 Wreath Matched up until January 16, 2024.

This is the first year 2023 that we haven’t put a wreath on the grave of every Veteran at Wilmington Nation Cemetery in a long time.  Wreaths Across America is sponsoring another program that should spark an incentive to want to buy some wreaths. It is called 2 for 1. If you buy 1 wreath for $17.00 we get 2 wreaths to put on graves. If you buy 5 wreaths there will be 10 wreaths to put on the graves of Veterans.  The 2-for-1 program started December 16th. If you have already bought a wreath by credit card I would suggest doing the buying the same way. Only 2 things: Go to the website below which will take you directly to The Lord Craven Website site and don’t add $3.00 to their technology fund. Below is the information you need to do this. You will get a form e-mailed immediately after you buy your wreaths, but you will be e-mailed another receipt and that one would list our chapter on it. It should have listed it on the first immediate receipt too. I would like you to forward me the 2nd receipt that they e-mailed you for my records. The 2-for-1 Sale started on January 16, 2023. If you are going to buy by credit card you have until January 16, 2024 to purchase some wreaths. That is the last day of the 2 for 1. You have until January 16th at 12:00 midnight to purchase wreaths. Then the 2 for 1 is over. My e-mail address is: par4wilson@gmail.com.

If you are going to buy a wreath by writing a check you need to make it out to Lord Craven Chapter CDXVIIC.  You would need to mail Cindy Sellers your check ASAP since mail will be slow. The checks must have a date between December 18 - January 16, 2024 to be considered for this 2-for-1 purchase. Contact Cindy at  cindysellers@ec.rr.com. She will give you her mailing address. This is only being done for Lord Craven members only. If anyone else reading this post wants to order by check e-mail Phyllis Wilson and she will e-mail you a form to fill out, write a check to Wreaths Across America and mail it in yourself.

You have until January 16th at 12:00 midnight to purchase wreaths. Then the 2 for 1 is over. Let's all rally and buy a few wreaths. I think if all our members would buy wreaths we will be in great shape to put a wreath on every grave for 2024.

Website for Wreaths Across America:https://www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/38524  (click on website- This link is a direct link to our chapter site to donate. Click on the link and it should open for you. You can always copy and paste it into your browser. Each wreath is $17.00.

If you would like to buy a wreath by credit card, but are not sure how to do it e-mail me at par4wilson@gmail.com and I will help you.

There is also another way to order a wreath and that is by phone. You call:  877-385-9504 You tell them how many wreaths you want to order. They will ask you about the cemetery location – Wilmington National Cemeteryand the sponsor number which is NC0008P.  Our chapter had 41 wreaths sponsored by many people as well as chapter members who ordered wreaths this year.

One reason I have alway been successful with getting other donations is that I would e-mail friends and family in my neighborhood and ask them to buy wreaths. I would include a form to purchase a wreath and put a box designed with a WAA sign on it and put it on my porch for my neighbors to donate. They would write out the check to WAA and then fill out their form. I would put the chapter number on the memo part of the check: NC0008P plus WCWNCE. I would then print out a form to list all of the checks that I have donated. If anyone is interested in doing this let me know and I will e-mail you 2 forms. Of course, you can also give them our blog address and they can read how to purchase a wreath by credit card too.

Let’s Order Some Wreaths For Wreaths Across America – Put a wreath on every Veterans Grave at Wilmington National Cemetery on December 16th, 2023.

We have one more Lord Craven Colonial Dames meeting on November 18, which would give you the opportunity to make out a check to Lord Craven Chapter CDXVII and give it to Susan DeGroote, our treasurer to order a wreath for Wreaths Across America. The price of one wreath is $17.00.  Susan will then mail a check with a total order of wreaths from the chapter. After this meeting, if you are unable to attend you can still order a wreath, but you will need a form to send the check to WAA. E-mail me at par4wilson@gmail.com and I will send you a form.  You can mail the form yourself. The cutoff date to mail a form is Nov. 15th. Be sure and put your code NC0009P and Location NCWNCE on the memo part of your check. That is why ordering by credit card gives us an immediate result of your order. If you are unsure how to order by credit card e-mail me and I will walk you through it.   Lord Craven members can also mail a check made out to Lord Craven Colonial Dames and mail it to Cindy Sellers. If you prefer to order online or by phone click on the Wreaths Across America Tab at the top of the page. Then follow the directions. If you are having technical difficulties you can e-mail Phyllis Wilson the blog manager who will be able to help you.

Lord Craven has 28 wreaths purchased for their group as of October 30. Let's be sure all of our members buy at least one wreath. Go Ladies.

2 for 1 Sale

Between December 15 until January 16th Wreaths Across America is sponsoring a 2-for-1 sale. If you order 1 wreath you will get 2, so I am suggesting that all of our Lord Craven members who would like to buy more than 1 wreath to hold off until December 15-January 16th to buy more wreaths. I am also suggesting that you should do this by ordering online. It is really very easy. You can also call up the main number and order wreaths. If you order by check you can mail in your own check, but you need an order form. You can e-mail me and I will send one to you. The check and form must be received with a check that has the dates December 15 to January 16 on it.  If you order by credit card after December 16th it will not count for the 2 for 1. We had one lady order 5 wreaths last year on January 17th and they counted as 5 wreaths. So, you need to order by the specific dates mentioned.

Thank you,

Phyllis Wilson WAA coordinator

Lord Craven Chapter CDXVIIC Meeting for September 16, 2023

Jim McKee, Site Manager for Brunswick Town State Historic Site, spoke to our members at the September meeting of Lord Craven Chapter CDXVIIC at the Indian Trail Meeting Hall in Southport.  His focus was on the findings from the latest archeological excavations in the recently discovered ruins of a tavern that was not on the site map, and had been found in searching for a particular house.  Digging deep within the confines of the brick basement or first floor they found all the things one expects to find where a tavern existed, but some artifacts were tied to England and anti-King activity there, putting Brunswick Town in the midst of the earliest days of revolutionary activity in the colonies.  This tavern would have burned about 1768 before the site map was drawn in 1769.  He also told us that they now believe the British burning of the town did not take place until as late as 1781.

Vice-President Dale Spencer introduced guest speaker, Jim McKee at the Lord Craaven September 16th meeting.

The ideals in our Declaration of Independence and Constitution were formed a century before they were penned and adopted or ratified.  They began with the desire and search for religious freedom and evolved into the early Compacts and Covenants that shaped the governing bodies of the Colonies in the 1600’s.

Two early groups of immigrants, Pilgrims and Puritans, were motivated by their religious convictions. Both groups wished to purify their church by applying the principles of the Protestant Reformation which had its roots in Germany with Martin Luther. Both groups were parts of the Separatists Movement.
The search for religious freedom led more than 40,000 to leave their homeland for Massachusetts between 1620-1640, their Compacts and Covenants shaped the ideas and inspired generations of Colonists and eventually led to a Revolution and our founding documents.

We Will Never Forget - 9/11 REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

 9/11 REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

The Richard H. Stewart, Jr. American Legion Post 543 and St. James Fire Department will host a remembrance ceremony commemorating the 22nd anniversary of 9/11. The service will be held at the St. James Community Center at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 11, 2023.

The remembrance service is a moving and appropriate way to memorialize the tragedy that struck our nation on September 11, 200.  FDNY Captain (Retired) Pat Cleary will share his memories of responding to the alarm and escaping the WTC North Tower collapse on that fateful day.

The SJ Fire Department will ring the ceremonial fire bell, Taps will be sounded, and Amazing Grace will be played in honor of the victims who perished. American Legion Post 543 is named after Richard H. Stewart, Jr. who was killed that day, in the WTC, and was one of the first victims of the war on terror.  His parents were residents of St. James and were responsible for getting the 9/11 national flag to Southport on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 in 2011.

The ceremony is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.
